Sarah Woolridge
Sarah Woolridge was taught her first asana at the age of 3 by her father who had spent several years in India. Many years later, after several years of being afraid to exercise or move her body due to neck and back injuries, an osteopath recommended yoga to strengthen the back and Sarah then found yoga, starting by practicing the flowing and challenging Dynamic Yoga method. Feeling very early on that this was something she wanted to do, her practice deepened and became more frequent. The freedom, strength and flexibility that regular Yoga practice gave physically was amazing, and a daily practice was established within 4 months of starting.
Exploring other styles brings new focuses to each posture and aspect of yoga. In her teaching Sarah focuses on subtle activations in the body (known as Bandhas) and the importance of sensitivity, focus, awareness (the Yogasutras of Patanjali). Sarah is passionate about the breath, believing that movement which originates with the breath becomes graceful, powerful, effortless and beautiful. Sarah is a certified yoga teacher with internationally renowned teacher of 30 years, Godfrey Devereux, creator of Dynamic Yoga and founder of Wind Fire Yoga. She is also certified with the Yoga and Health Centre of Orlando, Florida, - studying there with Edely Wallace, a very experienced teacher who came back from paralysis through yoga, with a very strong focus on pranayama (yogic breathing techniques) and philosophy; and with Denise of Essential Yoga in Kent, England. With Denise she discovered the spine awakening techniques inspired by Vanda Scaravelli and the importance of individuallity in Yoga practice, encouraging the Yoga practitioner to take responsibility for their own practice and explore what works best for them. She has also trained with renowned teachers such as Donna Fahri, Mark Woolford, the Venkatesh's from India, Judith Hanson Lasater and Bridget Woods Kramer, and is continuously informing herself further through study of Yoga, Ayurveda and Anatomy; attending courses, seminars and workshops.
Sarah is dedicated to sharing the benefits of yoga practice with anyone who comes to her as a student, and to continuing to learn, from her teachers and students alike. Sarah is currently studying and inspired by Anusara Yoga.
